RESOURCES

ORV (Off-Road Vehicles) such as ATV/UTVs are a great way to see the outdoors. They open up landscapes that are impossible to reach by regular motor-vehicle, and would take days to reach by foot. When used carefully and responsibly, ORVs pave the way for adventure.

Unforunately, every year, tens of thousands of people are injured on ATVs and UTVs. According to a study done in 2010, the majority of ER-treated, ATV-related injuries were from 4-wheel ORVs, being used for recreational prurposes that over-turned on dry terrain. This comes as no surprise to us - the longer you ride, the more sense this will make! ATVs/UTVs can maneuver into some pretty technical terrain and it's this very attribute that can make them dangerous.

ORV Laws in Canada (by province)

It is important before using an all-terrain vehicle to be aware of the laws that apply when and where you use your ATV, before you ride.

The provinces and territories regulate vehicle and driver licensing, and vehicle operation. You can
view their laws related to ATVs.

Outdoor Stewardship & Best Practices

As ATV enthusiasts, the team at BC ATV Training believes that stewardship is as important as safety. No one recreational group has a right to negatively affect the enjoyment of others. One of the greatest threats to off-roading is the inconsiderate behaviour of our fellow off-raoders. So slow down, share the trail, pack out what you pack in, be considerate of others and always TREAD lightly!

Travelling only where motorized vehicles are permitted.

Respecting the rights of hikers, skiers, campers and others [slow down for horses!] to enjoy their activities undisturbed.

Educating myself by obtaining travel maps and regulations from public agencies; complying with signs and barriers and asking owner's permission to cross private property.

Avoiding streams, lake shores, meadows, muddy roads and trails, steep hillsides, and wildlife and livestock.

Driving (riding) responsibly to protect the environment and preserve opportunities to enjoy my vehicle on wild lands.
